If you are passionate about protecting the flora and fauna of Aotearoa, and connecting to te Taiao then this is the role for you.
Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki and Auckland Council are seeking reliable individuals who will put manaaki into action and take the first step towards a biosecurity career. Kauri dieback disease and Myrtle Rust are serious biosecurity issues that are threatening our ngahere, and this role is an opportunity to help us protect our at-risk forests from the impact of these diseases.
In this role, you will be educating visitors who are using mountain biking and walking trails in Te Ngaherehere o Kohukohunui/Hunua Ranges, teaching them the importance of preventing the spread of pests and diseases. As a Kauri-ora Ambassador, you will be an advocate for te oranga o Te Ngaherehere o Kohukohunui (the health of the Hunua Ranges) by providing friendly education and advice to increase awareness of these issues, and the positive action we can all take individually.
Kauri-Ora ambassadors are based at bike cleaning stations at key locations within Hunua Ranges and the Waharau Regional parks.
You will be scheduled on a roster (with days available from Friday- Monday), which requires working weekends and public holidays, starting from December 2023 until the end of February 2024. All Ambassadors will work in pairs and must be comfortable being outdoors all day, sometimes in remote locations. For those who enjoy variety in their working lives and some of the best views in Tāmaki Makaurau, get your applications in today!
