Ngā pōtiki toa a Taikehu Ngā tamariki toa a Taikehu The brave young children of Taikehu Are you aged between 21 and 28 years old, and wanting to be supported in truly bringing out all of your potential? Every year, Rotary District 9920 (comprised of clubs in Central, Eastern and South Auckland as far as Tuakau and including the Pacific Islands of Samoa, Fiji, Rarotonga, Vanuatu and French Polynesia) supports a contingent of rangatahi/taiohi in a week long experiential live-in programme designed to help young people develop their team work and communication skills and fulfil their potential as leaders. The programme consists of a combination of: Presentations and Workshops facilitated by community and business leaders particularly focusing on leadership development, opportunities for the exchange of ideas, opinions and experiences in discussion groups etc, open sessions, sport and keep fit exercises, the opportunity to experience and practice leadership skills in action, involvement in a community activity and with the host Rotary Club programme, hosted in our heartland. We would love to support two Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki uri into the programme this year, which will be held from Saturday 29th June until Saturday 6th July 2024 at Willowpark Convention Centre, Eastern Beach, Auckland. If you are passionate about protecting and regenerating the mauri of the moana and connecting to the taiao, then this is the role for you! Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki are seeking a reliable individual who will put kaitiakitanga into action and join our team in the role of Hoe Piripiri - Waiora / Waiora Coordinator . In this role, you will be involved in various kaupapa, and work across multiple projects, that relate to the management, protection and regeneration of the taiao, with a focus on Tīkapa Moana and Te Ngāherehere o Kohukohunui/Hunua Ranges. This is a full-time position (Monday to Friday) where you will be based at our Clevedon tari and various sites around Tāmaki Makaurau. You may be required on occasion to work on a weekend or public holiday to support a specific kaupapa, and will require the flexibility to work around the timing of tidal movements when needed (this could involve early starts or later finishes at times). For those who enjoy variety in their mahi and would like the privilege of working in a unique environment, get your applications in today! Key responsibilities: Field work (often in muddy and/or wet environments) Supporting Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki aquaculture activities Caulerpa (invasive seaweed) surveillance Creating monitoring plans Report writing Providing environmental knowledge and recommendations Mapping and monitoring of shellfish beds Organising and communicating with taiohi, pakeke and kaumātua Writing submissions to Parliament and Fisheries NZ Attending hui with other iwi mana whenua and partners Attending briefings and training sessions as required The ideal candidate: Has outdoor experience, particularly in the marine space Preferably has diving qualifications Preferably has a Bachelor of Science or relevant tertiary qualification Is proficient with Microsoft excel and word Has an understanding of scientific literature Is interested in Aotearoa’s biosecurity and conservation issues Is comfortable pronouncing and using basic te reo Māori Understands and values the use of tikanga and protocols Is organised and reliable Has strong communication and people skills Works well in a team environment Has an outgoing and engaging personality Can problem solve effectively and make key decisions in a timely manner Be capable of exercising personal initiative within project guidelines Can work weekends and public holidays if required Has a full driver’s license Comes with an attitude of learning Is safety and wellbeing focused Is committed to the protection and regeneration of Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki taiao Key details: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday Beginning 20 February 2024 Salary based remuneration To apply for this position, please email your CV and driver's license to hr@ngaitaitamaki.iwi.nz by 9 February 2024.
